We established BookCourt as an independent neighborhood bookstore in the fall of 1981. Many changes have taken place since then: in 1984 we computerized; in 1990 we expanded our store into what had been a dirt-floor basement; in 1996 we expanded again, this time next door to create a double storefront. In 2008 we expanded yet again, creating approximately 1250 more square feet of store space.

Our goal has always been to provide our customers with a wide variety of titles including many university and small press books, along with excellent customer service. We are particularly proud of our staff: dedicated, knowledgeable book-lovers who love to recommend books and are trained to use our various resources to find whatever book you’re looking for.

We host a unique events series for both children and adults and have a strong commitment to Brooklyn authors and books about Brooklyn and New York City. We are proud to co-sponsor the Sundays at Sunny’s Reading Series. Please see the Events page for more information.
